Dear WeLearn Community:
WeLearn continues to bring top-level community experts to share their experiences with our Learners during the PBL sessions. This week we had an expert in Natural Disaster Preparedness join Primary PBL. Next week our AI Robotics PBL will meet an expert from King Mongkut University (full details below).
Opening of Hua Hin Center. We are also pleased to announce the opening of the Hua Hin Branch. Our soft opening is scheduled for July 5, with an open house on both July 4 (1:00 to 3:00 p.m.) and July 5 (9:00 to 11:00 a.m.). The learners at the open house on 5th July will join our Morning Kickstarter to meet other learners and see how they kick start their days.
I would love to invite all of you down to join the open house, but with the Covid-19 infection rate still at high levels in Bangkok, Hua Hin parents are a bit nervous about interacting with Bangkok-based families.
The location is near Cicada Market. It is a villa in a nice compound with a lovely big tree in front, outdoor space, and lots of natural lighting.
Reopening of Bangkok Center. Finally, please note again that the WeLearn Center at Maneeya Building Center is reopening on Monday, June 28, 2021, for self-directed learning. All courses will continue to be delivered virtually for now, but learners can come to the center to interact with their peers and continue their virtual learning under our supervision.

Dear WeLearn Community:
As highlighted in the newsletter below, we were so pleased to have Antler Fund partner Markus Bruderer join our Secondary PBL this week. Antler is the leading startup pre-incubator and early-stage investor in South East Asia and has nurtured 85 startup teams and projects in the last two years in our region. Globally, they receive a huge number of applications from would-be founders (50,000) and only accept 1% into their founded program.
One of WeLearn’s top goals is that each of our Learners develop an innovative mindset. Many experts consider that in the future world of AI, humanity’s ability to be innovative is what will truly differentiate us from AI. AI can learn to be creative, calculating, precise, and rational, but it is very difficult for AI to be innovative. Innovation requires a synthesis of so many unique human characteristics. That’s why WeLearn places an innovative mindset as a top priority. Of course, an innovative mindset can only develop from a « growth mindset », which I addressed in a previous newsletter.
Please support your Learners and WeLearn by always encouraging innovative thinking! If you do, I am confident that our Learners will one day soon be able to join an Antler program in SE Asia or their home country and invent something extraordinary!

Dear WeLearn Community:
Hua Hin Center: I spent the last three days in Hua Hin with our Marketing Director, Kim Anderson working toward opening our new center there by early July. We visited a progressive primary school called Halio http://www.halio.org/ which has a very similar core philosophy to that of WeLearn. Halio will start referring their students to join our program once they complete primary school at Halio.
We are planning to have an open house at the new center on June 28 and formally start our program on July 5 (Covid-19 regulations permitting).
Register at WeLearn.Org: Parents, please all register on www.welearn.org so you can get access to your learner’s dashboard and see their progress.
Key New Leadership Team Members: We are very pleased to introduce you to two new members of our Leadership Team: Tony Atkinson (Learning System) and Peter Rachada Monthienvichienchai (Platform and Funding). See below for more information.
Reopening: Our Leadership Team will be discussing when we should reopen WeLearn’s Bangkok Center on Monday and let our community know what we have decided. Parent input is very welcome.

Dear WeLearn Community:
“Fail to Succeed.” “Fail fast.” “Failure mindset.” There are many quotes and expressions these days about the importance of failure.
What do these expressions mean and why is failure so important for our children? It’s all part of the growth mindset that we at WeLearn and you as parents want to instill in our Learners. The growth mindset embraces failure. The fixed mindset fears failure. Fear of failure discourages children from pursuing and overcoming challenges and makes it more difficult for them to really learn.
I really love the expression “fail to succeed”. It has two meanings. One, you need to fail many times to succeed. Two, if you don’t fail, you’re not likely to succeed (so you will “fail to succeed”)!
Elon Musk is a perfect example of the power of failure. How many times have his rockets failed? Read his biography for details, but his rockets failed many times and sometimes the failures were utterly demoralizing for his team. But he embraced failure, learned from it, and moved the team forward. Every successful entrepreneur has experiences like this.
So let’s all work with our WeLearn Coaches to continue to teach our children not to fear failure but to embrace it and grow from it.
