WeLearn Academy (WLA) and Andrew Biggs Academy (ABA) have joined together to create a unique, virtual summer English language program for Thai Students and other English language learners who want to improve their English while at home this summer.
WELEARN & ANDREW BIGGS
Hands-On English brought to your Home
Our dynamic summer program combines ABA’s popular English language project based learning program, where English skills are acquired through hands on activities, and WLA’s online personalized academic and virtual mentoring programs.
At WeLearn, we know that English skills are crucial for your child’s success in the Digital Age. Our English Summer program will help your child acquire English skills through a highly-effective series of project based learning modules.
WeLearn Academy is launching a new program to provide a foundational summer English course for students who would like to improve their English skills via project-based learning led by a native speaker in partnership with Andrew Biggs Academy. This course will develop the four skills with an initial emphasis on listening and speaking. Additionally, there will be classes focused on English for academic purposes; for example, to raise levels as measured by standards such as The Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR).
The first objective, however, is to give students experience in speaking and using English as a means of communication, rather than just learning the rules of the language. This program aligns with the Government’s National Curriculum (2008) as set out by the Office of the Basic Education Commission, which stresses child-centered learning.
This program aims to be project-based in order to present students with a “learning by doing” approach to education. For this reason, Google Classroom will be employed to try to create a collaborative atmosphere. The first project is to create a short movie on a topic of their choice. All students will work together to create this. The second project to be offered is to create advertisements for a variety of products and services relevant to young learners. Students will engage in all aspects of production, beginning with an introduction to story-telling, the structure of a story, how to “storyboard” an idea, writing a script, creating props, filming, and then editing. Learners then proceed to make projects based on touring and guiding, and use their imagination to create inventions, possibly tying into climate change. Finally, they will complete projects relating to the future of daily life, both in Bangkok and Thailand as a whole.
This general scope and sequence will be employed for all levels, with the teacher acting as facilitator. The creative process is fully supported in each project. This program aims to foster imagination, creativity, and imaginative storytelling.
This is NOT a typical online English Course! Our expert teachers sit with your child in a virtual learning space from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, relieving a lot of stress from parents during this difficult home learning period.
The duration of the program is one month (4 weeks), but can be followed on a weekly basis. Each week will be a new self-contained project, which makes it compatible with a flexible schedule.
