What is IGCSE?

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is the world's most widely taken international qualification for students aged around 14–16. It is the international equivalent of the British GCSE, examined by UK boards and recognised by universities and employers worldwide.

IGCSE results form the academic record that A-Level courses — and ultimately university applications — are built on. For families in Bangkok who want a British academic route without a traditional school environment, IGCSE is the natural foundation stage.

How Mastery-Based Pacing Works

In a traditional classroom, the calendar decides when a topic is "finished" — understood or not. Mastery learning inverts that: learners advance topic by topic only when a concept is truly understood. Gaps close quietly while strengths accelerate.

The same principle applies to the exam itself. Students sit IGCSE papers when their mastery checkpoints show they are ready — not because an age-group cohort happens to be sitting them.

  • Advance on understanding, not the calendar
  • Mock exams broken into low-stress mastery checkpoints
  • Register for the exam session that matches readiness

Managing Exam Stress: How Our Coaches Help

Exam seasons are where bright learners most often burn out — especially gifted and 2e teens for whom anxiety and perfectionism can be louder than ability. At WeLearn, revision is planned and completed on campus with coaches, inside the structured day.

Mocks become mastery checkpoints instead of verdicts. Coaches build executive-function skills — planning, prioritising, starting — alongside subject revision. And because preparation happens between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM, evenings stay yours as a family.

How Project-Based Learning Strengthens IGCSE Results

Projects are not a break from academics — they are where academic concepts become permanent. Every WeLearn PBL programme feeds directly into IGCSE subject understanding:

Robotics & maker builds

IGCSE Physics & Mathematics

Circuits, forces, and coordinate geometry stop being abstract when your robot needs them to work.

Storytelling & media production

IGCSE English Language & Literature

Scripts, narratives, and audience-aware writing build the exact analytical and composition skills examiners reward.

Entrepreneurship missions

IGCSE Business Studies

Running a real micro-business makes market research, costing, and marketing concepts stick long before revision starts.

Biomimicry & science lab enquiry

IGCSE Biology & Chemistry

Designing from nature and running real experiments turns syllabus content into first-hand understanding.

IGCSE at WeLearn: Your Questions Answered

What is the difference between IGCSE and A-Levels?

IGCSE is the international qualification students typically complete around ages 14–16; A-Levels are the more specialised qualifications that follow, usually at ages 16–18. At WeLearn, learners work through the CambriLearn British pathway — Primary to IGCSE to A Levels — so IGCSE is the foundation stage that opens the door to A-Level study.

When do students sit IGCSE exams?

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams run in set sessions each year. Because WeLearn is mastery-based, students register for an exam session when they are genuinely ready — not simply when the calendar says so. Coaches plan the registration and revision timeline with each family.

What results can we expect?

We do not promise grades — no honest educator can. What we do promise is the mastery approach: students advance topic by topic only when a concept is truly understood, mocks are broken into low-stress mastery checkpoints, and learners sit the real exam once their preparation shows they are ready.

Can my child switch between IGCSE and the US Diploma pathway?

Yes. Learners can switch between the British IGCSE route and the US High School Diploma route without changing learning centres, with full flexibility up to age 14 and coach-guided transitions after that. The same campus, coaches, and project-based learning continue either way.

How is the week balanced between in-person learning and online curriculum?

Learners attend our Sathon campus full-time, Monday to Friday. Academics run through the CambriLearn platform with live teachers, supported by daily on-campus Focus Hub sessions and coaching — so the online curriculum is always wrapped in in-person structure, mentorship, and community.

Is IGCSE at WeLearn suitable for gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) learners?

That is exactly who we designed it for. Gifted learners can accelerate through material without waiting for a class average, while 2e learners get executive-function support, a low-sensory environment, and a 1:6 coach-to-learner ratio that keeps exam preparation structured and calm.

Does homework take over evenings during IGCSE preparation?

No — revision is planned and completed on campus with coaches during the structured day (8:30 AM – 3:30 PM). Preparation is spread across mastery checkpoints rather than crammed at home, so evenings stay yours as a family.
